Set your budget first

Price shapes every other decision, so settle it before you fall for a view. Among the wedding venues in Adelaide that publish prices, per-head packages start at about $118 at the low end of Serafino McLaren Vale's range and reach $255 for a reception in the Adelaide Town Hall Auditorium. Glen Ewin Estate lists $140 to $220 per head, and Golding Wines in Lobethal $202 to $240.

Most venues don't publish prices, so ask for a quote early. It also helps to know which pricing model you're looking at. An all-inclusive package covers food, drinks and hire in one per-head figure. A dry-hire venue, such as Aldinga Secret Garden or Mandalay House & Garden, charges for the space and lets you bring your own caterer and bar, which can cost more or less depending on your choices.

Saving money: winter, midweek and dry-hire bookings are the usual levers. Glen Ewin Estate offers up to $50 off per person from June to August. Browse cheap wedding venues in Adelaide.

Match the venue to your guest list

A room that's too big feels empty and one that's too small feels cramped, so shortlist venues whose capacity fits your number with some room to spare. For intimate weddings, Marybank Estate runs micro weddings for up to 50, The Lane Vineyard and Pikes Wines host elopements for up to 30, and the Parlour at The Manor Basket Range seats 22. See all small wedding venues.

At the other end, Glen Ewin Estate seats up to 380, Sunnybrae Estate's Marquee seats 300, and the Adelaide Town Hall Auditorium seats 300 beneath its pipe organ. For a cocktail-style reception, the National Wine Centre holds 500 and The Playford's Ballroom around 600. Compare large rooms on the wedding reception venues page.

City, Hills or wine country

The city is easiest for guests. Adelaide Town Hall and Ayers House are on King William Street and North Terrace, within walking distance of hotels, and Ayers House arranges guest discounts with three nearby hotels. The Adelaide Metro venues add a heritage estate at Rostrevor, about 15 minutes out, the Carrick Hill gardens at Springfield, and a beachfront option at Glenelg.

The Adelaide Hills start about 25 minutes from the CBD at The Manor Basket Range and run to around 45 minutes at farm venues near Mount Barker. McLaren Vale is 40 to 45 minutes south. The Barossa is about an hour north-east, and the Clare Valley around 90 minutes north. The further out you go, the more you'll want transport or accommodation for guests.

Ceremony and reception in one place

Holding both at one venue saves a second booking, a second set of transport and a gap in the day. 28 of the 30 venues we list confirm ceremonies on site. Check the wet-weather plan for outdoor ceremonies: Marybank moves ceremonies into its Barn, Templewood House into its drawing room, AL RU Farm into its hayshed, and Aldinga Secret Garden into its chapel.

If you'd rather marry in a public garden, Veale Gardens in the Park Lands has 13 bookable ceremony spots through the City of Adelaide, and Adelaide Pavilion sits inside the same gardens for the reception. Browse all wedding ceremony venues.

Plan for the season

Some venues change shape through the year. Marybank Estate drops to 50 seated under its verandah in winter unless you add a marquee, while Mandalay House & Garden promotes itself for autumn, winter and spring. For a summer wedding, ask where guests will shelter from the afternoon sun during an outdoor ceremony, and whether the reception space is air-conditioned.

If you have your heart set on a winery in autumn, ask how vintage affects access to the estate and the cellar door on your date.

Where your guests will sleep

14 of our 30 venues have accommodation on site. Mount Lofty House has 29 rooms and can house up to 58 guests. Marybank includes its Barn Loft for the couple's wedding night, The Manor has townhouses and a spa suite, and Templewood House sleeps eight in four en-suite rooms. In the wine regions, Seppeltsfield has its Lodge, Chateau Yaldara has a five-bedroom house, and Skillogalee has a homestead and cottages. See every wedding venue with accommodation.
